Making Checkerboard Cakes

Monday, November 10th, 2014

checkerboard cake I went to the Philadelphia Miniaturia this past week. I took Ruth Stewart’s workshop on making Pastel Checkerboard cakes. This is a picture of my first cake. Of course, Ruth had to help most of us with the roses. However, I think with a little practice, I will be making beautiful roses all by myself. I need to work on pressing my clay tighter to keep from having gaps. I had so much fun and even made a new mini friend from Alabama, Kathy. I do believe I will save up for next year.

Christmas Cakes Here are three of my Christmas cakes. They are made out of polymer clay. I really enjoy making cakes with bows. With the Holidays approaching, there seems to be little time for making anything! Maybe soon. Maybe after the New Year!

2 tier halloween cakeRecently I have made several miniature cakes. Again, not real but made from polymer clay. It started with a few ideas I gleamed from pictures of some real cakes. Pretty soon, I was off and running, well actually sitting, making different kinds of cakes. I made Halloween, fall, and Christmas cakes. It can be over whelming. After the Holidays, I’ll get back to making more food items, including cakes.
